John D. Mezzasalma, CPA, CFP®
John is a partner in Mezzasalma CPAs where he is primarily responsible for heading up the firm’s wealth management division. John started Mezzasalma Advisors in New York City in 1984. He expanded the Firm to the Monmouth County area in 1994. John specializes in developing financial strategies for physicians, business owners and high net worth individuals. He is also an expert on Income Tax savings strategies for physicians.
Education: John is a graduate of Brooklyn College. He has participated in numerous seminars on topics such as: Tax Saving Strategies, Educational Funding, Estate Planning, Financial Planning, Asset Protection, Pension Planning, Investment Planning, Life and Disability Insurance.
Accomplishments and Awards: John has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 1978 and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) since 1990. John is a 9-time FIVE STAR Wealth Manager and a “Lion of the Year” award recipient.
Professional Organizations and Community Work: John is a member of The Institute of Certified Financial Planners, The New Jersey Society of CPAs and his local chapter of The Lions Club International where he serves as treasurer. Personal Interests: John has been a resident of Monmouth County, NJ since 1985. He is married and a proud parent of 3 children (two of which are CPAs) and 14 grandchildren. John enjoys travel, golf, and weekly pickleball games.
Anthony Mezzasalma, CPA, CFP®
Anthony is a partner in Mezzasalma CPAs where he is primarily responsible for preparing written financial plans. Anthony has been in public accounting since 2009. He worked at numerous CPA firms before joining the Mezzasalma Advisors team. He is an expert in optimizing accounting systems and was integral in developing our outsourced accounting department product. He thoroughly enjoys saving his clients money through legal tax savings and optimizing their wealth by recommending and helping to implement complex financial strategies.
Education: Anthony is a graduate of Monmouth University where he earned a BS in Accounting graduating Summa Cum Laude with the highest GPA of all accounting majors. He also earned a Bloomberg Certification and minored in information technology. Anthony stays active with his Alma matter by appearing on campus as a guest lecturer and is a member of the Monmouth University Accounting Advisory Council. This committee is designed to help reengineer and improve the Monmouth University accounting program curriculum and foster relationships between the University accounting faculty and accountants in industry/public accounting.
Accomplishments and Awards: Anthony has been a certified public accountant (CPA) since 2009 and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) since 2015. Anthony passed both the CFP® and CPA exams on his first attempt and achieved an average score of 95% on all 4 parts of the CPA exam. Anthony has been named one of the 30 Most Influential New Jersey CPAs Under 30 by the New Jersey Society of CPAs. He was also inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society.
Professional Organizations and Community Work: Anthony is a member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. He is involved with the NJSCPA’s pay-it forward program, NJSCPA E-Young CPA Writers Pool, and is a moderator for Continuing professional education offered through the NJSPCA. Personal Interests: Anthony resides in Monmouth County, NJ with his wife (who is also an accountant) and his two children. His hobbies include gardening, golf and wine making. In his spare time, Anthony enjoys walking his dog (an American Eskimo named Romeo), spending time with his family, and traveling abroad.
Joseph H. Doerrer, CPA, PFS, CFP®, MST, AEP®
Joe is Vice President of wealth planning at Mezzasalma CPAs. In this role he is responsible for providing strategic tax consulting and financial planning services, along with tax compliance services. He worked at multiple CPA firms prior to entering the area of wealth management. Prior to joining Mezzasalma CPAs, Joe was a tax manager and vice president at Bessemer Trust. In this role he worked closely with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families to provide comprehensive multigenerational tax and financial planning services. Joe strives to create simplicity in the complex areas of tax and wealth management for his clients.
Education: Joe graduated from Caldwell College (cum laude) where he earned a B.S. in accounting and played Division II baseball. Joe also earned an M.S. in taxation from Rutgers University Business School.
Accomplishments and Awards: Joe is a certified public accountant (CPA), personal financial specialist (PFS), certified financial planner (CFP®) and accredited estate planner (AEP®). In 2018, Joe was honored by the AICPA as a Standing Ovation award winner in the area of personal financial planning. This award recognizes exemplary achievement by young CPAs in the area of personal financial planning. Joe was similarly honored by the NJCPA for exemplary achievement in the area of financial planning.
Professional Organizations and Community Work: Joe is a member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJCPA), the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) the AICPA personal financial planning section, and the Estate Planning Council of Central New Jersey. Joe is an active writer in industry publications. He has published many technical articles in major publications (Tax Adviser, AICPA Tax Section, NJCPA Magazine, etc.) on such topics as Social Security, retirement and stock option planning. Personal Interest: Joe resides in Monmouth County, NJ. Aside from spending time with his family, Joe enjoys traveling, reading and practicing brazilian jiu jitsu.
Lynn Mezzasalma
Lynn joined the Mezzasalma Advisor’s team in 2007. She is currently our assistant office manager and helps to make appointments, keep our client’s accounting files up to date, and keep our office running smoothly. She does everything with a smile. Lynn was a Girl Scout leader for over 17 years. She is active with her local church and has sat on the program committee for over 10 years. Lynn enjoys cooking and entertaining her 12 grandchildren.
Patricia Williams
Patricia (aka Patty) joined our team in 2019 as our office manager. She brings to the firm 10 years of medical billing experience and 2 years of management experience. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgian Court University with a BA in Psychology in 2010. Patty is a notary public and takes the lead serving our client’s payroll processing, investment account servicing, and tax preparation needs. Patty is pursuing her Quick books certification. Patty is active at her local church, serving as a youth group leader for 3 years. Patty spends her spare time with her husband and two children.
